Tips for making a perfect cake: Preheat oven before mixing cake; Sift flour once before measuring; Have shortening at room temperature; Always use level measurements; Bake at given temperature; Cake is done if cake tester inserted in center comes out clean; Cool cake in pan 10 minutes; then turn out and cool on rack.
